Alpinetek's
Review of Stiffening Rails
ordered from
DANO's Quality Parts

If you have attempted to build a PSG1 or MSG90 clone, you aleady know that "stiffening rails" can be difficult to acquire.
Recently, an advertiser on HK91.com posted an ad with these rails for sale.
I took the plunge, threw my money at him and this is what I received.

Packaging was excellent.
Inside this box are two "stiffening rails", wrapped in a Terry Cloth Towel, surrounded by "popcorn" packaging filler.

Upon opening the box, removing the filler and unwrapping the Terry Cloth Hand Towel, I found these.

They are very well made, very heavy and appear "tough". Beveled at about 30 degrees all the way around.
Each rail weighs about 6oz.
Dimensions are about 9"L X 0.75"W.
Finish is "In the White".

Notice the "cutout" at one end of the rails. This is to accomodate trunion area..

Another view of the rails, showing both sides..

Here are the rails sitting in the slots of my SAR-08. Nice fit!

This shot shows how well the rails sit in the slot. After welding into place, this should work out nicely.

Here's another shot of one of the rails resting in the rifle's slot. Good fit, it should function quite well.

Here are a couple of shots of the NEW rails that DANO is offereing. These are a tad longer and come with a blued or black finish rather than in the white.
SUMMATION
I really like these rails!

The only mod I plan to make is to remove the material that slightly covers the ejection port. Again, this is a "no-brainer" for anyone that would be utilizing this product anyway.  Anyone buying a set of these is probably already a "Do It Myself" kind of guy and would have NO problem doing this. I have a desktop Taig CNC Micro Mill that I will use for this small task. This should probably be done AFTER installation anyway.

I think this is an EXCELLANT product!

I was, originally, going to attempt to make these, myself, from scratch, but the cost of buying these already made was VERY CHEAP compared to the time I would have had to devote to making my own. When you get my age, every moment is MOST valuable. Now I'm glad I ran across that ad.

My experience with the seller went this way:
I called and spoke with the "Dano". He was very cordial and seemd to know his product very well. He informed me that production had not yet begun, but was soon forthcoming. We exchanged several emails with him keeping me detailed ALL THE WAY thru the production process. Lots of communication.

I placed the order on 01/01/02
On 01/11/02, I was notified, by email, that they would be shipped that day.
Order was received on 01/14/02. Box was postmarked 01/11/02.
This two week period included production time.

Price of the rails: $120.00.
Shipping utilized was US Priority Mail.
