These pictures reflect my latest "upgrade" to the gun: the "new" plastic SEF gripframe. I made the mod to fit on semi auto weapons myself. This grip frame accepts the "standard" semi trigger pak, with the addition of an extended length safety selector. This weapon also contains a Williams Trigger/Contour Job. The pull is significantly lighter and crisper, making this a very accurate and fun "paper puncher". You will notice the odd looking trigger profile in the closeup of the lower group.

This particular gun was one of the few "overstamped" SAR-03s that you may occasionally hear about on the message boards.

These guns, originally stamped SAR-03 were stopped from importation and fitted with "thumbhole" stocks and muzzle covers to conform to the "89 Bush Ban". After this modification was made, Springfield re-designated these guns SAR-08, and all subsequent HK import/domestic clones from Springfield since then wear that name. Sec922(r) provided that these guns could be retofitted back to "pre-ban"status as long as they were imported and the retrofit was completed by 11/90 (this weapon was imported in 06/90 and retrofitted immediately upon receipt).  After that date, US made parts could be used to elliminate enough IMPORTED parts for the weapons to be classified as Domestic Sporting Rifles, to allow the fitting of the "standard" pistol grip and buttstock. However, after 09/13/94 (and until 09/14/04), due to the ten year ban on "Assault Weapons", a flash hider could NOT be placed on the gun (A flash hider is considerd an "EVIL" feature), but a muzzle brake could be attached as long as it is permanently fixed. The threads on the barrel also have to be "neutralized" (due to their inherrently EVIL nature). These guns were imported until 1997.  SA currently sells a DOMESTIC version of the rifle, utilizing the US MADE Federal Arms recevier.

Springfield continues to DOMESTICALLY produce the SAR-08, but utilizes a cast, Aluminum US made receiver, that is radically different in appearance from this one stamped from sheet metal. This different receiver also inhibits the use of several of the "receiver based" HK accessories.

These are considered the best of the HK "clones" in that they are actually manufactured on HK liscensed equipment in an HK liscensed plant. With the exception of manufacturer's identification/designation stampings, there is NO DIFFERENCE between this weapon and any "authentic" HK91.
