| The Semi Auto Receiver has a "block" welded into the carriage
on which the bolt carrier travels. This block prevents the tang that is
present on a Full Auto Bolt carrier from engaging the Disconnector found
in a Full Auto Lower. This Disconnector does NOT exist in a Semi
Auto Lower. In a Semi Auto, the hammer is released with each stroke of
the trigger.
If you attach a Full Auto Lower to this receiver and are able to close the upper and lower receiver together, and attempt to fire the weapon, you will most likely wind up with one shot fired and the hammer "down" on a live round. If you have "soft primer" ammo, you MAY get a small burst of fire with a live round remaining in the chamber and the hammer "down". This is a DANGEROUS and ILLEGAL situation for a civilian to be in. MAKE sure you do NOT find yourself in this situation. A Full Auto lower CAN be modified to legally and properly function on a semi auto receiver. The modification will require some drilling, welding and refinishing of the lower receiver. A Full auto Bolt carrier can also be, easily, modified to legally fit/function in a Semi Auto receiver. ATF may (read: probably) consider the SIMULTANEOUS possesion of a Semi Auto Upper and a Full Auto Parts kit, Constructive Possesion of an ILLEGAL MACHINE GUN. |
Notice that on the Full Auto Upper, that there is NO Carriage
Block. If your receiver looks like the one above, you have a FULL AUTO
receiver. If you are a CIVILIAN, you are in violation of Federal Law.
A semi auto lower WILL function with this receiver, and produce Semi Auto Fire. In Full Auto, the Disconnector (not present on a Semi Auto Lower) releases the hammer when the bolt carrier "trips" it as it goes into battery. Since no pre-1986 receivers exist in the US, there are NO Full Auto SIG SG55x guns available for civilian possession. In the United States, only LAW ENFORCEMENT and MILITARY weapons exist in Full Auto. It is ILLEGAL for a civilian to possess a Full Auto SIG SG55X,
with the exception being SOT/FFL holders.
