Here's how she came out of the box.
Complete with Sling, Lock and HK Multi Tool
I couldn't really "handle" having this gun in it's original GREY color after a short while. It's a TACK DRIVER right out of the box!
Awesome shooter! I learned to really HATE the grey color, though. I had heard of a couple companies that were PAINTING these guns black. Well... my experience with imprinting on plastics gave me a little insight as to how effective THIS would be, and I had NO INTENTION of applying any topical application to my gun!  I use my guns and any paint would have a very short life!!

Using my experience in Thermal Dye Sublimation  and Pad Printing, I devised a method of applying new pigmentation to this polymer. My process will work on the HK SL8-1, USC45, and the Steyr AUG/USR weapon systems.

This system will allow "darkening" of Grey (or White) colored polymer stocks to Dark Green or Black. Green stocks can be made Black. I am continually experimenting, and updating this info. Dark stocks CANNOT be made "Lighter", so please do not ask. It is simply impossible. the very attributes of the special dyes, equipment,  and procedures involved in this process that allow these changes to be made, also prohibit it from working on Dark colors.

Here's How she looked at stage one of the "final" conversion:

I cut/contoured the barrel myself using my own lathe.
The cool sight rail is available from DOCRAK!
I replaced the standard forearm with a G36K forearm, modified to clear the SL8-1 gas action.
You'll notice the weapon pictured has a 30 ROUND RAMLINE AR-15 Magazine!
Visit here for a FAQ concerning this conversion!
Hi-Cap capabiltity made possible
by the Special Weapons Hi-Cap Modification .

If you enjoy the looks of the stock, thanx.
THAT was MY  idea.
I picked up a G36 stock, sent it along with my ORIGINAL SL8
buttstock/pistol grip and hired a fellow HKPRO
Board Member to do the FIRST SL8/G36 "Stock Merger".
His name is Phil Convington.
Phil is performing this service for interested parties.
For pricing/turnaround please visit his website.

Below is how an SL8-1 appears after receiving the
Hi-Cap Conversion and Buttstock Conversion from Top Notch Parts.
A Fake Flash Hider has also been added to the muzzle.

This is, of course, a GREAT IMPROVEMENT, but I felt EVEN MORE "enhancements" were needed.
Folding stocks are illegal on postban guns.  I hated looking at that hinge that could
never be utilized. Due to the design of the SL8 receiver, when SW accomodated the hinge, it  resulted in a lengthened stock,
increasing the shooter's Length of Pull. My Re-Design corrects that, giving the gun a more accurate profile
to the actual G36.

Below is a comparison of an actual G36K, the SW stock, and MY redesigned stock.

Below are pics of MY Gun's CURRENT appearance.

I sent the SW Buttsock/Pistol Grip Kit to Phil Covington to remove the useless hinge.
Contact Phil for prices/turnaround to have this done, also.
The scope rail is courtesy of DocRak.. click HERE for more info!

The barrel finish was done byStealth-Coat.
Their product is superior to every other finish currently available.
Please visit their website for more info!!

I also modified the SW magwell to permit the retention of the FACTORY mag release.
This allows me to attach a G36 magwell and use 10 round G36 mags (or protoype preban 30 rounders).
Since I have made (US made) my own cocking handle,
the parts count on MY particular rifle is sufficient to LEGALLY do this.

Due to the number of emails asking about the cost of such a project,
I have decided to list what I've "invested" so far.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Please be aware this project was NOT initiated with the objective
of saving ANY money or did it have ANY economic considerations at all!
-----------------------------------------------------------
My SOLE objective is to have this weapon closely resemble the HK G36!

Be aware that If you ARE doing the SW conversion, the uncolored Buttstock Insert issue will not matter since this component will be completely removed to accomodate the SW conversion.
NOTE that the Buttstock Insert, CANNOT be RECOLORED.
Apparently the polymer is too "dense" to allow permeation of the sublimation dye.
If you would like me to recolor YOUR rifle, then understand ahead of time that the insert WILL NOT be recolored!
If your markings have faded or become saturated from dying, you can "engrave"
them and paint over them with Testor's Model Paint as I have done.

The engraving makes them permanent and "maintainable".
