For Starters.... the US MADE bolt looks just like the original.....except
it has an "extra" lug to allow it to pick up a round from a double stacked
mag. |
 |
The profile of the new (aluminum) magwell looks very "different" from
the original (polymer) magwell, but has a distinct character of it's
own.
The mag release lever is extremely simple in it's design and appears
to be "problem proof".
I wish it was on the other side of the well, however. |
 |
Very clean machine work.
No rough or sharp corners to deal with.
It has a light and "crisp" look about it. |
 |
This is the side that covers the cut needed to accomodate the wider
AR15 magazine.
This looks "OK" but is JUST BEGGING for some type of engraving or logo. |
 |
I kept getting "Blue" images, so I changed the exposure of my camera
to get a "truer" shade of the color of the metal (Sorry that I'm too lazy
to retake the previous pics).
This shows some of the detail involved. You can see the "lip" that "seals
off" the shorter side of the magwell. |

Ok.. Here it is. The notorious "cut" that has so many analites worried
about destroying their gun!
As you see there is little evidence (if any) that this looked any other
way.
In hindsight..to me.. it appears that the "extra" material (like that
which is so often found on toy models) has simply been removed. |
 |
Another angle of the same piece. As you can see this is "no big deal".
I think it looks great. |
 |
Here is the OLD original magwell attached AFTER the cut has been made.
Even though I can't imagine WHY you would "go back"... IF you did, your
gun would look like this. |
 |
Now THIS kills me!!
HK was kind enough to place an image of a .223 round at the top of the
magazine so that it is perfectly framed by the releif cut....... almost
(it seems) in anticipation of JUST such an act!
If this cut was never made, how could this image ever be properly
"appreciated"??
